the first post-covid vacation
Boy, did I forget what humidity felt like. My hair has surely forgotten. It’s been 2 years since I left the country and being in Florida still feels like a dream and at any moment I might wake up. I’m visiting for the holidays, a staple tradition in my family for nearly a decade now.
Now that it’s suddenly not a Canadian winter, I can dress freely without needing to don a winter coat. Upon arriving here, it was my natural inclination to reach for my skirts and dresses first, as the most neglected pieces of clothing in my wardrobe 9 months of the year. I’m not much of a skirt-wearer but those hunnies need their time to shine.
The classic white linen skirt. Twice I’ve already spilled and cleaned off coffee from it, as is expected. She’s wrinkled, as linen demands to be, but that’s part of its charm. Linen is one of my favourite materials to purchase as it’s a natural fibre, it breathes in the heat (meaning less sweating), and holds an aura of elegance. I’m interested in trying out hemp next, which is arguably the most sustainable crop in the market.
I also wanted to try my hand at tying a scarf top. Not recommended unless you have tiny tatas, by the way.
If you know me, you know I love a good men’s shirt. Combining masculine and feminine pieces to me is oddly attractive. I paired the oversized button-up I borrowed from my dad’s closet with a skort I thrifted, but you could also swap it out with biker shorts.
